Robert Buckle was born 6 January 1802, the fourth son of Edward Buckle of Sowerby, Yorkshire. He was educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge,〔'Cambridge University Senate', ''The Times'' (London, England), Tuesday, May 20, 1845; pg. 6; Issue 18928〕 graduating BA as 4th Wrangler in 1824. He was elected a Fellow of St John's in 1826.〔'The Ipswich Journal' (Ipswich, England), Saturday, April 29, 1826; Issue 4598〕 He was Rector of Moreton, Dorset until 1836; and then of Upwey in the same county.〔(OPC )〕 He was also a Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.〔"Fasti Ecclesiae Anglicanae 1541-1857: volume 6: Salisbury diocese” Horn,J: London, 1986〕
